GTIN QUESTION

Hello, 

I thought i sent a message friday evening, but i don't see it anywhere.  forgive me for writing twice if i did. 

I have someone else's Gtins that need to be entered in to 1WS in our catalog. 

The upcs/gtins given, are only 13 digits.  How do i deal with that? 
If i leave it, it will add it's own check digit, and make it different.  
If i add a zero in front of it, is that ok?  Will it change the item at all? Is that allowed to do? 

EX: The gtin is:  8 006290 807017   for Ferrarelle   who are from Italy. 

Not sure how to handle this, but, i need to get it in today.

We don't seem to find your Friday post either.

For both 12 and 13-digit barcodes, the steps to adding them in our systems are the same: you would fill out however many leading 0s (zeros) are needed to ensure the resulting number is a 14-digit GTIN, which is the standard for GDSN item data sharing. The GTIN can originate as GTIN-8, GTIN-12, GTIN-13, or GTIN-14, but GDSN messaging normalizes it to 14 digits.

Adding one or several 0s (zeros) in front is fine as this does not alter the check digit.

Hi Val!

Thank you soooo much for getting back to me.   I was going to go for it, but felt really unsure.  I feel much better now knowing i can go on and do the correct thing!
