I would like to understand what the difference is between the three (3) different options for Roll. There is a RL Roll (RL), RL (RL) Roll and RO Roll.

Hello @c2b30 and thank you for continuiing the use of the customer community. Welcome back.

In GDSN, the different "Roll" options are typically different UOM (Unit of Measure) codes, even though they may all display as "Roll" in a user interface.

The distinctions are:

RL Roll (RL)

  • GS1 UOM Code: RL
  • Standard unit of measure representing a roll of material or product.
  • Most commonly used when the item is sold or counted as rolls.

RL (RL) Roll

  • This is usually the same GS1 UOM code (RL) displayed in a different format by the application.
  • Some systems show Code (Code) Description while others show Code Description (Code).
  • Functionally, this is generally identical to RL Roll (RL).

RO Roll

  • GS1 UOM Code: RO
  • Also represents a roll, but it is a different measurement code maintained in the UN/CEFACT code list that GS1 references.
  • It may be used by specific trading partners or legacy systems that require the RO code instead of RL.

We hope this helps. Thank you!
