Use Parent and Child packaging levels to create a Hierarchy for a GDSN product.
A Packaging Hierarchy is a linkage of packaging levels for a product. Common packaging levels include Each or Base, Inner Pack, Case, and Pallet. Packaging Hierarchy requires a Parent and Child GTIN relationship. This allows for the publication of both the Parent and Child level GDSN data through a single subscription to the Parent item.
NOTE: All packaging levels must be created for a product BEFORE those levels can be included in a product's Packaging Hierarchy. For more information about what a packaging hierarchy is, please review this article.
Before a Packaging Hierarchy can be created, levels must first be established. When adding GDSN data, you must create a unique product for each level of the Packaging Hierarchy (Each, Case, Pallet, etc).
PRO TIP: Start by creating your “Each” level product and use the Duplicate shortcut to quickly copy the attributes to a new product, which can be used as a template for other Parent/Child levels.
NOTE: Once linked, a published Parent GTIN product will include GDSN information for any linked Children GTINS.
To edit a product’s packaging hierarchy prior to publishing, follow the below steps.
NOTE: To edit a hierarchy once a product has been published, follow the steps here.
